Not Just Knitwear. Nepal.
“The world will change when our girls and our women are educated.” -Maggie Doyne
Right now Monkstone Knitwear is out in Nepal.
The adventure started from a friendship between Maggie Doyne and I formed at the Do Lectures many years ago.
After staying in touch, it was the right time for me to head out to Maggie and her family based at Kopila Valley in Surkhet.
The Kopila Valley Women’s Center started in 2013. You can read all about it here.
Our mission -  we want these women to own and believe in themselves, to empower them to do. To feel complete in all aspects of life.
After the flood that hit a few weeks backs, the time is more right than ever for this incredible team of 20 women to open their shop doors and cloth the town and children. Here’s to the start of this adventure.
Let’s get the studio open, let’s teach, let’s share and let’s empower.
Amazing things happen when women come together and support each other.
I would love you all to meet these incredible women. Here’s to the start of an adventure. We have a shop to open and a work room to get making in. Every lady here has a story and I hope to share them all with you. #make #share #empower
If you want to follow the images and stories along the way then please also follow our facebook page too.

Here is a little About Kennedy City Bicycles

Kennedy City Bicycles business is about making the ultimate city bicycle. It’s about the right balance of reliability, beauty, practicality and value for money. Kennedy City Bicycles wants to put people on the roads of cities riding bikes designed to do so. Not your Dad’s old BMX. Not a bare-bones Fixie. Not a £3,000 road bike last seen ascending the French Alps. He is also pretty stylish too!
Kennedy CB want to save people money, help them explore the cities they live in, get them outdoors and take them away from air conditioned cars, smelly trains and the crazy guy next to you on the bus.
They want people to enjoy the adventure, the freedom and the beauty that comes with cycling the city streets.
Most of all they want people to love doing it the way that they do. With all of this in mind they only sell what they think you need. Every one of their bicycle’s components is chosen for a reason. For example - the frames are light enough that the bicycle can be carried up a few flights of stairs, and have a smooth underside of the top bar so that it’s comfortable on your shoulder while you’re doing so. Every bicycle comes with a detachable folding mudguard included as standard. This folds up to the size of a postcard and fits comfortably in your back pocket, so you only get protection from the rain when you need it.

The leather saddles are attached using security bolts so that the city thieves can’t get anywhere near them. Some things need to be complicated but riding a bike really needn’t be. Because of this they have made some of the fiddly decisions for you, while still letting you personalise your new ride. Because who wants to spend hundreds of pounds on something that’s just like everyone else’s?
At Monkstone we believe in going the whole mile when designing and getting the most out of the natural fiber of wool, and so when we met with James a few years ago we knew we had the same vision for design.
Simple, thought about and detailed.
Design locally. Made to order.

Here’s Some Cool Reasons to Cycle In Wool.

ODOUR RESISTANT
Wool is far more efficient than other textiles at absorbing sweat and releasing it into the air, before bacteria has a chance to develop and produce unpleasant body odor. Very cool!

MULTI-CLIMATIC
Thanks to its hygroscopic abilities, wool constantly reacts to changes in body temperature, maintaining its wearer’s thermophysical. Now, that’s pretty smart!

BREATHABLE
Wool fibers are crimped, and when tightly packed together, form millions of tiny pockets of air. This unique structure allows it to absorb and release moisture—either in the atmosphere or perspiration from the wearer—without compromising its thermal efficiency. Wool has a large capacity to absorb moisture vapour (up to 30 per cent of its own weight) next to the skin, making it extremely breathable. Breathe easy riders!

NATURAL
Wool is a protein fiber formed in the skin of sheep, and is thus one hundred percent natural, not man-made.
